Eli Oster
and Yvan Lang began working together in 1997, in what was at that time a three-way partnership. In 2003, Oster Lang Architects moved into a newly-renovated office in the center of Jerusalem.
During its early years, the partnership focused mainly on private homes of above-average size and elegance. It was in this period that the office clinched its reputation for creative solutions to space requirements, exact detailing, high-quality workmanship and close attention to the client's wishes. The most important projects in these first years were several outstanding houses and interiors in Caesarea and Jerusalem .
Building on this experience and thanks to good relations that the office has created with a number of public clients (Israel Association for Community Centers, Jerusalem Municipality , Ministry of Defence), Oster Lang Architects has shifted the balance of their work in recent years to take on more public projects. The office has recently completed a 1,500m2 daycare center and is currently working on several youth centers.
Oster Lang uses advanced computerized methods to design such projects as 3dimensional objects, allowing them to study features such as light and perspective, and then translate the images into 2-dimensional drawings for presentations to authorities and working drawings. They also produce in-house rendering that is used as a design tool.
Eli Oster, originally from America, and Yvan Lang , from France, bring to the office their training and work-experience from abroad. They have honed a characteristic style that can be described as modernist, employing glass and steel, galleries and bridges to create light-filled, unfussy spaces that are both exciting and comfortable to use. Similarly, they maintain a positive and respectful interaction with clients, and sensitivity to the heritage and culture of person and place.
